| The Very Secret Diaries of Edgar Bones, installment 1. |
[tue oct 14th, 2008] |
From The Private Journal of Edgar Bones, kept in high security at the Ministry of Magic in the depths of the Department of Mysteries under numerous curses you could not even (and wouldn't want to) imagine. Nobody reads this but Edgar, and occasionally his more eccentric bosses and friends, now and then.
Wizarding military strategy NOW seems stuck where Muggle strategy was a century ago. This lag is quite uncharacteristic of Ws, who are usually quite a way ahead of Ms in most fields. This could, of course, be written off to pop. size; the Muggle population has exploded, while the W pop. is dwindling (correlation?). Muggle strategies kill en masse, now, in staggering numbers, while CONDONED W strategy still focuses on "duelling" and similar one-on-one combat (see prestige of Aurors vs Hit Wizards who work in teams; the latter has the advantage and is arguably more frequently effective, while the former is given prestige; results are not held as highly as they could be in W society). However, V Y-K-W's strategies include mass killings -- riots -- LARGE scale destruction. While it is, perhaps, a less moral (?), gentlemanly (?) form of combat, might it be that HE is adapting whilst WE lag behind? Truly, it is possible that W society will be greatly compromised by the loss of so many citizens, but does our refraining from "low" tactics make any difference? He is killing us in scores. Perhaps it is time the Ministry woke up and retaliated.

Everyone seems to be exchanging fascinating stories about roommates and the terrible things they've done, and I find myself rather lacking. I've had the occasional roommate, of course -- not even counting Hogwarts, but I'm of the opinion I was probably the maddest of the five of us, back then -- but whenever I've been able to, I've generally lived alone, and to be honest, I'm quite good at bollo messing about with things on my own. I suppose the major difference between myself and all your wayward flatmates is that, since I've been inventing things since I was a kid, when I take Muggle appliances and distort and destroy them, it's generally not due to an inability to operate them so much as deliberately using them for purposes they were not made for, and then when I make things explode or get forks stuck in walls or capture cat's tails by accident, it's all viewed as part of the necessary evils of my immense creative genius, I suppose.
Did I just say I had an immense creative genius? Why on earth do you lot bother putting up with me?
(Well, you know, those of you who actually do, as opposed to those of you who haven't really spoken to me and are just reading about this and thinking about how mad and pompous I sound.) (I'm really not, though. Pompous. Not mad. I'm definitely mad. But not pompous. You know.)
I think once I finish writing all this nonsense I'll have to start cleaning. This place needs a good dust. Well, dusting. It's got plenty of good dust. That may be part of the reason why I keep going on like this oh bugger all I guess I'm off.

| EDWARD ALBARN, R.I.P. |
[wed aug 20th, 2008] |
For the record, Mr Albarn's job didn't actually involve very much dragon taming. Obviously I respect the Ministry's decision not to disclose any information regarding the case -- which I know nothing about, for the record; I'm an Unspeakable, that's the Dept of MLE's business not ours -- but I think they wouldn't object to clarification of his job description. Like most men with high positions in the Ministry (in my estimation), Mr Albarn's job consisted of very much paperwork and a considerably smaller amount of practical missions. Mostly the research & restraint people are academics and bureaucrats who oversee the dragon tamers; dragon taming's mostly a private enterprise as well, not government-operated, although the government is certainly responsible for 99% of the field's regulations and restrictions and so on.
It doesn't really matter, I just sort of wanted to see Mr Albarn's record kept straight in the public eye. At least what section of it is represented by those of you using these.
I didn't really know him, although he looked nice from a distance. I met his wife once at a Ministry function. She seemed nice, although I think I frightened her a little when I started going on about advanced molecular distortion.

| introduction! |
[sat aug 5th, 1978] |
Well, hello. I think this is the fourth one of these I've bought, by which I mean Rose has bought this new one for me, and as matter of fact it's actually my fifth or sixth according to her, although we both remain unsure as to the pirate one that I invented last year on vacation quite counted. Regardless, hello, hello! I'll try not to lose this as quickly. I'm Edgar Bones, and I enjoy long walks on the beach and combining various potions ingredients and finding out how many of the explosions I can survive! I have a nice job at the Ministry of Magic and a beautiful fiancée who is reading over my shoulder and seems to think I should have used the word "gorgeous" but is actually more beautiful than gorgeous which I mean in the best way, because I prefer the b-word. We have far too many cats. I am a former Ravenclaw and current madman, and generally make a complete idiot of myself every time I try talking about myself, so if we could end this terrible punishment immediately I'd be much obliged.
Dreadfully tight security at the Ministry lately, I'm sure you'll all be glad to know. For obvious reasons, I can't go into details, but I'll never walk the same again.
Well, cheerio, signing off before I lose myself my job, tata!
